Twitter indeed is a great place site for social marketing. I have read so much positive comment about twitter and some negatives. I think those who commented negatively about twitter were apparently just don’t know how to use twitter the right way. I guess this summit would be very beneficial to all internet marketers who wish to grow on their online business.

There’s no doubt that Twitter in the future will have yet bigger power in terms of marketing. Even some of the most conservative organizations have implemented Twitter in their marketing strategy. But even more companies should sign up – or at least occupy their username.

Just found this today, but I’ll try to call in tomorrow and take a listen. I read an interesting article yesterday about how Google admits to Twitter, “kicking their butts” and also admitted to being open to a partnership. The article dispelled rumors that Google was buying Twitter and they stated they don’t have to buy up everyone that have mutual interests, heh.

This is actually something people should really look into.

Some twitter pages for smaller companies seem to be all over the place and super annoying – and the price seems more than fair. Twitter COULD in theory become a valuable tool for some businesses, however twitter has a retention rate of less than 40% over users first months. So – I guess the moral of the story is twitter could be a useful tool if you know how to use it and the retention rate moves up past the dismal 40%.

Twitter can be a good tool for many businesses but for many others it’s not the helpful. As Mr. Radio mentioned, the retention rate is not very good. Additionally, a large portion of the people who retain their use of Twitter are those people who are trying to use it for their business, making it largely a community for people who are trying to monetize each other.

I own a several motorcycle related WebPages. I use Twitter every day to keep all of mu followers informed as to my motorcycle activities. Most of the 500 some odd friends I have on Twitter all ride motorcycles and none of them have ever had a problem with me talking about my sites. First off I don’t Spam them , and I always give them interesting relevant useful information about motorcycles. I don’t just try to sell, sell, sell . I have developed important relationships with all my followers and I also accept information about their websites and what they have going on. Even though I never try to promote any product or service directly on Twitter I have done quite a bit of business. It is mostly like word of mouth advertising. I mostly say something like. I went for a long motorcycle ride this week end, boy am I glad I had my new Harley Davidson saddle bags. Check-em out at… then I leave the URL. It’s not intrusive and mostly true. It’s about sharing your experiences.

Its not that I dont believe in the power of twitter in the marketing mix its just that I dont really see the appeal. It seems so one directional and lacks the interaction of something like Facebook or any blog you care to name.

Surely true interaction comes in the form of discussion, chat, banter etc and I cant help but think that maybe Twitter lacks all of that?

That said, of course I have set up a twitter account for various businesses and tell them all that it needs updating three times a day. I just feel a little bit naughty because deep down I wonder if it is a fad?

Twitter is most certainly an interesting social marketing tool, but I also think it’s over hyped. Most business persons looking to expand their contact sheet either have over 1,000 followers or they are following over 1,000. There are simply too many tweets going on in a day to keep up, and I believe that many tweets eventually get lost in the crowd, literally speaking.
