A person never stops learning. Even if he becomes an authority on a subject , there is more scope for him to learn. And reading is a great way of learning. Nice post

I think success depends upon the scale and details of the endeavor, but I agree that good communication skills are almost essential to success in a social arena. Reading never hurts either.

Success is about taking action, if you keep taking action, keep getting up even when you fall down then good things will happen

Your website content is great and very inspirational. I was wondering if you could recommend any video/dvd documentaries that discuss empowerment of the individual and the community.

Thanks for your help

[...] And it is not just alcolaulics that struggle here either. So many of us go through our lives thinking that it is up to us to figure everything out. And that is just a load of hogwash. There are tons of people who have gone before us who are willing to share their experiences with us to help us along our way toward success. One great way to tap into their knowledge is to read what they have to say. [...]

Michael, That's a good point. Good communication skills are another key to success. And verbal skills are probably even more critical than writing skills.

But even successful talkers need to be bringing new and better thought patterns into their minds to continue to grow. Many of the successful talkers I know of are also big readers.

You say you are a skim reader. But I bet you are taking in more of what you look at than you realize. And because you do it quickly, I imagine you look at tons of stuff too - keeping your brain fed along the way.

Chris - I think some of the most successful people are talkers - communicators. They work out their ideas through words and exchange.

Now on a personal note, I do read my bible every day. However, beyond that I am a skim reader.

Rick, I'd be interested to see the results of a psychological study about which medium actually stimulates more of the brain: video, radio, or reading.

My first thought is that movies probably involve us more emotionally. But then I wouldn't want to try to convince a Steven King lover that they weren't emotionally involved in the story!

This library plug-in is neat.

I couldn't agree more about the importance of reading. I like movies, and have learned a lot from them, but you use a different mindset when you're watching a movie or listening to audio than you use when you're reading. With the movies and audio you get involved in what is being presented to you and get pulled along at its pace, and don't think about it until later. Reading is abstract, whether it's fiction or nonfiction. Your create the images as you're reading. The pace is determined by you, so you can take time at any point to think about what you're reading.
