wow man!! thats the perfect gist, you have such a positive attitude that you look for the best in each and everything and thats what makes you so much popular!! basically these are the real lessons of life, the earlier we learn these and apply them in our lives, the earlier we will move to higher success in life. MJ, Your high school history was better than mine then! About all I remember from school about slavery ending involved Lincoln and the Civil War.

As far as the War of 1812, I just remember that the battle of New Orleans happened after the peace treaty was signed.

Beyond that I had to go find out on my own. And unfortunately I wrote this long enough ago that I don’t remember my sources exactly or I’d pass them on to you.

One surprising thing I noticed this morning while poking around on this subject is how small a percentage of the slaves ended up in North America. The overwhelming majority of slaves ended up in Portuguese or Spanish colonies.

Hard to imagine slavery was so much more prevalent there than even here in the States.

I Googled your website because I saw the connection between the anti French bill and the War of 1812 and I wanted to see what history had to say about that connection. Surprisingly little came up on the web about it although it seemed to fit in whith what I learned in High School history (distorted as it was.)

Trevor, Looking around their web site I see that the movie is in the US, UK and Canada already. I didn’t see any info about Australia yet, though.

As powerful a film as it is, this still isn’t a blockbuster by any means. I’m not sure how long it might take to get to y’all down there.

I saw this movie Friday night and also thought it was very powerful. It’s been a LONG time since I saw a movie I enjoyed as much. Great post, and the tidbit about the War of 1812 was interesting – I didn’t know that.
