In my personal opinion, iPhone is much better than Treo. It is gaining more popularity recently. One of my favorite model is iPhone 3G 16gb phone. With that much of space, I could do almost anything.

Yeah, good point Mike. Any major add campaign now would get lost in all the free hype the press is stirring up.

Gotta hand it to Apple. They seem to have a pretty effective marketing machine.

I think that once Apple has sold all the units to people who knew it was their heart's desire or decided they couldn't live without the latest gadget their friends have, THEN they will pull out Mac/PC-type ads. Why spend money now when you're getting all the free publicity you can handle?

Christopher, Sorry to add to your addiction! ;) What you say about the Treo is eerily close to verbatim what Gorgeous said to me about it when she first brought the idea up.

Mike, the single source service provider thing seems to me to be the weak link in the iPhone's potential.

Interesting that just seeing pictures of the two devices side by side got you thinking about the iPhone as a potentially viable option. Suppose Apple will do a marketing campaign similar to the Mac/PC ads that have been so successful for them?

Chris,

I have neither the Treo nor the iPhone, but just looking at the pictures in your post, it's abundantly obvious that the Treo was designed by phone guys and the iPhone wasn't. I'm as Applehypephobic as anyone, but that juxtaposition of photos ALMOST had me convinced of the wonder of the iPhone.

But I already have AT&T service, and that brought me back to reality! They suck. And work hard to do so consistently. Jobs chose to dance with the devil; let's see whose power is greater!

I have a Treo 700p and despite the long overdue update firmware update(that I can't install because I don't have an empty SD card) it's a very capable device. I email with it, post to my blog, take pics and upload them to Flickr, maintain my calender, post to Twitter, use google maps to look up businesses and get directions, listen to audiobooks, stream internet radio, read e-books, access my Google Calender and Gmail, write and submit business for my company, and oh yeah make phone calls.
It's great but I really want an iPhone. My productivity has really suffered the past few days because I have been on the net looking at geek porn (iPhone photos).

Patrick, I'm not really hostile to the iPhone myself. I'm sure I'd like it if I had one. I'm not too keen on the single choice service provider non-option. But I'm confident it is a wonderful device.

As far as Chris Pirillo goes, I get the feeling that he might even buy one eventually after the hype dies down. I don't know.

April, I suspect you might even be one of the ones who influenced Gorgeous in that direction! :)

I just got the Treo 755 for Mother's Day with the Palm OS software. I love it. I needed a phone that would do the schedule thing, sync with my laptop, let me check my email on the run, google directions on the go, and open up lockboxes on property. Oh yeah - and make phone calls :)

It has surpassed all my expectations and I would recommend it.

I am the the new owner of an iPhone but I would not consider myself a "rabid fanboy" but I am a fan and do appreciate the things that make Apple products unique. It's the "almost perfect" device for my business needs, yes I said business needs. I'm a small business owner and web and multimedia development is what we do and how I can interact with my clients. Something like the iPhone is what I have been looking for quite sometime. However is someone is just looking for a good phone and not really anything else I will say they are not spending their money wisely but if someone needs the combined feature set of the iPhone then I will say it's a wonderful choice. I consider myself a pretty balanced person. I think the hype is overblown but then again people are going crazy for it for a reason and I'm sure a least a few are happy it's more usable than most other devices out there. I know it is for both my wife and myself. I've been able to comfortably do things I was never able or desired to do on my previous cell phone.

As much as some are getting fed up with the hype and fanboys they rabid hatred group is just as annoying. I hate to name names but Chris Pirillo. I didn't mind his first comments but he keeps on and keeps on when I think he promised he would "leave it at that" in the beginning.

I don't think the iPhone buyers are buying for the high tech feature set as much as they are buying it for the usability. That holds true on other Mac products. It's funny but because of the iPhone I am just now hearing about the Nokia N95 and it does sound interesting but I admit the name N95 never caught my attention.
