I used semiologic for my plugins (I am so not techie) I did have to have a web guy install the semiologic…took him about 15 minutes

Once it’s up it gives me as someone who loves word press but doesn’t know how to install plugins a ton of flexibility

WP plugins are really awesome, the choices we have and also they are the easiest to install rather than any alien looking code with installing instructions only a geek can follow.

Mad, While it’s true you can add plugins to your WordPress install to improve your SEO, it actually does a better job than many web publishing platforms right out of the box. The beauty is the ability to customize the platform to individual needs.

As far as SEO goes, the All in One SEO Pack is a great option for WordPress 2.3.

I have just started a blog so have been looking at different software to use. Without a doubt it is agreed that WordPress is the way to go. The amount of plugins available is amazing. My only gripe with WP is it does not come search engine optimized, this has to be done manually or with plugins. This seems odd for a web product.

You don’t need to play with .htaccess unless your changing permalink structure. Make sure it is writable – chmod. (right click the file and change permissions in FTP) Also check with your host.

Advice, Often with the .htaccess access file there can be a problem with the file’s permission settings not allowing WordPress to update the file. Occasionally a plugin will require a manual change to the .htaccess file.

If your entire blog crashed as a result of a plugin I suspect the plugin wasn’t compatible with the version of WordPress you were running. I’ve had that happen. And it can be quite unnerving when it happens.

The first (and only) time I tried to install a plug in, I crashed my blog trying to update .hcaccess I thought there would be 1,000,000 good tutorials to help, but I found that wasn’t the case.
