Recent Visitors Don’t Make It

Had to take the Recent Visitors out of the side bar. MyBlogLog was not responding and it was causing the blog not to load.

Sorry. But a cool feature that shuts the place down isn’t as cool as I thought it would be.

Chris — I’m sorry to hear that you were having slowdown issues, but it is unlikely that we were the source. We monitor our load times very carefully, and some of our larger users likes Gawker, Techcrunch and USA Today aren’t shy about letting us know if they think we’re slowing them down. We haven’t heard a peep, so maybe you;d like to give us another go? If you like, try adding it to a single page and then seeing if you get slowdown issues.

    Cheers!
    Eric

Eric, Thanks for your responsive feed back. I’m willing to give it another go.

The reason I figured the Recent Visitor widget was causing the problem is because when I pulled the page up the page loaded up to that point (my side bars load before the main content)and it said, “Waiting for mybloglog.com” in the status bar until the whole thing eventually timed out. It did this repeatedly to me. (I’m stubborn and tried it five or six times.)

It had worked fine before last night. And as soon as I removed the widget from my sidebar the blog loaded properly, even with the rest of the MyBlogLog features in place.

You might want to try pulling your tracking script as we’ve integrated that into the reader roll now. I don’t think that’s the problem, but one less widget is one less widget. If you ever run into a slowdown, please ping me at eric@mybloglog.com. We’re doing everything we can to make sure we honor our priviledged place on your web site. Thanks for giving us another go!

Hey, Eric! Thanks for pointing out the tracking script is redundant with the reader roll. Like you said, one less script to run is one less script. My personal blog has gotten so jammed up with “stuff” that it takes forever to load.

And with responsiveness like yours, how could I not give it another go? You are an example for Web 2.0 companies to strive for. Thanks for paying attention to little old me!

[...] I considered MyBlogLog a wonderful thing. Back say nearly a year and a half ago I posted about a problem with the MyBlogLog widget that I had. Eric Marcoullier, one of the founders of MyBlogLog, stopped by and commented to help [...]
