Major Disaster

December 18, 2006 by Chris 11 Comments

We’ve had a major data disaster here at SuccessCREEations. Our server crashed hard this afternoon and we are just now getting back up and running.Forest Fire

Unfortunately there was a complete data loss when the server went down and my web host had to revert to their latest back up. Their most recent back up was done on Wednesday 13 December.

And then to compound my trouble, with my unusually extra busy work schedule this past weekend I did not have time to perform my normal back up and all of my posts between the 13th and now have been lost permanently. I also lost any comments made during that time.

I apologize for that.

And please learn from my misfortune. Back up often and loose less data.

Even the Askimet spam counter in the left side bar went back a couple hundred captured spams. This was a bad one.

Oh Chris, I feel for you. It just gives you that sick to your stomach feel. We all get so complacent about back ups – until we get bit. Thanks for the friendly reminder.

Char, That which doesn’t kill us makes us stronger, eh? Thanks for the sympathies.

Yes, Chris it does. I experienced a minor disaster last week with my blogs and while it didn’t kill me, it was an inconvenience that led to a learning opportunity. So, all was good in the end.

Ah, the lessons life teaches us. The trick is to learn them as soon as possible so we don’t have to keep seeing them again on life’s make-up tests!

    Hey Chris,
I think I can get the content of the past postings back to you, I think my RSS Feed saves copies locally, so I might have that for you … let me know !!

Ollie, It turns out I subscribe to my feed via email at work so I had the posts on my laptop and had forgotten about it. I put them back up last night.

The good side of my crazy work weekend was that I didn’t have that many posts to recover. It’s just a bummer I lost the comments, though.

Thanks for the offer of the assist!
