There’s a New Meme In Town

A while back, Joe over at Working at Home on the Internet included me in on a new meme that has been going round. It was started by Mack Collier of The Viral Garden as a means to get deserving bloggers up the Technorati charts .

Of course, because of my recent server meltdown (and some other issues) it has taken me a bit to get back to this. And in the mean time I’ve been tagged by folks such as Ben Yoskovitz, Starbucker, Robyn McMaster, Jodee Bock, and Kirsten Harrell.

My favorite tag in this meme so far came from Ellen Webber who told a great story along with the meme. I love snowmobiling and I can relate. (I mean not that I do much of that here in Savannah. But I grew up in snow country.)

Here’s what Mack said when he started this thing.

The idea is to create a meme built around giving link-love to the blogs that deserve it… What YOU can do is simply create a new post on your blog, but CUT AND PASTE the list I have below, and then ADD any blogs you feel aren’t getting their due either. It can be 1 blog, or a hundred(or none if you simply want to repost the same list), but the idea is, find those great blogs that, for whatever reason, you feel aren’t getting their due, link-wise.

So without further ado, here are the links with a few extra tasty tidbits of my own at the bottom. Enjoy!

Ellen, I was just in Chicago a couple weeks ago and I was given an extra appreciation for my wife’s philosophy of Live Warm, Vacation Cold!

Riding a Skidoo through the arctic tundra sounds cooooolllddd! :)

Doug, I’m really not much of a memer. But then now I’ve gone and joined in on two of them in two weeks! Go figure. :)

Chris, it is so cold that you cannot stay out for more than 5 minutes with skin exposed. Gas freezes where I was and dog teams are main transportation there. the Inuit people are fabulous and warm enough to make up for cold weather! I was there two years when I taught for McGill University. Great experience and fun to share the stories:-)

I believe it, Ellen. I grew up in very rural upstate New York and the guy down the (dirt) road from us raised sled dogs. He did the Iditarod a few times and paid me to take care of the dogs he had to leave behind in NY when he was racing. The stories he’d come back with would make me cold in July!

Hi Chris, we already had a short discussion at Liz’s blog where I met you the other day. [We were at opposite ends of the spectrum about transfat. :-) ] Thanks for the link here and I’ll be back to check things out on your site.

Chris, how do you get your picture into the slot. I look funny with a question mark!!

Hey Anne, You’re most welcome. That’s the way this thing works. :)

Robyn! I prefer to think of it not as us being on opposite ends, but as two people with different perspectives discussing an idea for better understanding all around. :)

(For those of you who missed it, we’re talking about a post over at Successful-Blog.)

I’m using MyBlogLog to generate the avatars. If you want a photo up instead of a question mark, you can go over there, open an account and upload a photo of your own! :)

I gotta say I’m a fan of their service. I’ve been using them for a while for some stats on my blog and this past summer they added a TON of features to enhance community, including the avitars.

I had a bit of a struggle when I first installed the “Recent Readers” thingy in the right side bar. I posted a little vent about my frustration and Eric from over there jumped right in, offered up some suggestions, and it’s all worked wonderfully ever since.

Best of all it’s free! And I really like free.
