About a year ago Drew McLellan and 100 other bloggers collaborated on a groundbreaking book called The Age of Conversation. With such a distinguished contributer list and all the proceeds of the book benefiting Variety - the Children’s Charity it was a fabulous project.

If you’d like to get an insight on how some of the thought leaders in social media are engaging in conversation during the course of their businesses grab yourself a copy of the book. You’ll be helping a good cause while you’re at it.

Head Down

While all this was going on last year I was up to my eyeballs in SOBCon07 preparations. Between that and general life craziness I didn’t even catch wind of the project until it went to publication. I was head down focused on my business.

Perhaps that was a good thing because I was pretty stretched out at the time. Adding one more thing might have pushed me over the edge!

Why Don’t People Get It?

This year they are at it again. (And just in time for SOBCon too. I’ve backed away from the organizing end of the conference this year but I do have my ticket purchased so my butt will definitely be in a seat next weekend. Liz tells me the room is filling up but there is still room for a few more if you want to rub elbows with some of the best social media conversationalists out there. Get your ticket!)

The topic for the 2008 edition is “Why Don’t People Get It?” Each author will contribute roughly a page on one of the following topic areas:

  • Keeping Secrets in the Age of Conversation
  • The Accidental Marketer
  • My Marketing Tragedy
  • Business Model Evolution

This year I’m all in. Drew & the gang invited me to contribute to the project. Along with about 274 other authors!

Holy Smokes!

That’s a whole lot of people with a ton of insight on this whole social media thing. You’re not going to want to miss this book when it is published!

I’ll keep you posted on the progress.

Now I haven’t counted them, but I have it on good authority that there are 275 links in this author list for the 2008 edition of The Age of Conversation: Why Don’t People Get It?

Check them out.

Hey, this should be fun. I just sent mine in…way ahead of time. Which is most definitely NOT like me to be quite this early doing anything. Should be a good read.

I don’t have the book yet. I’m wondering did all the contributors subscribe to the assumption implicit in the question part of the title, i.e. that people don’t get it? A related question is whether there is a consensus about what the “it” is.

  8. Chris on April 26th, 2008 at 10:59 am

Des, those are good questions that I don’t know the answers to yet. The book is still in the writing stage at this point. It will be interesting to see how the 275 authors address those points.

I’ll let folks know when it’s been published and available for purchase.

Sounds like it will be a good read. I didn’t see when it will be out…

Looks like an interesting read, bloggers all around the world writing about “conversation”. It’ll be thought provoking to see the variation between different people from different parts of the world on the same topic, Illustrating the communication differences across the world as a result of cultural and social factors.

Wow, that’s a lot of people. I’m surprised more of them don’t have their own URLs (some use TypePad and WordPress).
